On Friday, March 3, 2017 the first meeting of the Project Steering Committee (PSC) and the Project Committee of Experts (PCE) of the “LIFE Natura Themis” took place in Athens.

Judges, lawyers, members of environmental NGOs, biologists, students and individuals (sixty in total) participated in the a training seminar "Environmental Law and Environmental NGOs" organized by the University of Crete - Natural History Museum of Crete (NHMC), on Saturday, March 11 2017.

The coordinator of the Heraklion Bar Association Dr. George Sbokos, lawyer, introduced the work and the activities of the Environmental Law Observatory of East Crete on Monday, March 6, 2017.

During the first year of the implementation of the project "LIFE Natura Themis" (October 2015 - September 2016), the preoperational survey that was included in the project’s proposal was conducted.

Networking with institutions and public services of EU countries, which implement LIFE projects, is essential for improving the effectiveness of the projects.

During an informative meeting on Tuesday, 14, February 2017, the lawyers from the Regional Unit of Chania had the opportunity to become acquainted with postgraduate programs in Environmental Law offered by different Educational Institutions in Greece and abroad.  

The Environmental Law Observatories (ELO) of East and West Crete started operating in early 2017.

The European Commission published during last week, the first ever comprehensive overview of how EU environmental policies and laws are applied on the ground.
