The present study aims to assess the potential for additional charge of Karteros seasonal stream, Heraklion, Crete, Greece, where treated wastewater is discharged. Extensive sampling and analyses indicated that the wastewater treatment plant effluent, which is discharged into the stream, is not effectively disinfected, while the physiochemical parameters of the effluent are relatively good. Based on the analyses, it is not advised that Karteros stream may be further charged with effluents from other wastewater treatment facilities. Finally, it is wise that the treated effluent be used for agricultural irrigation.
