"Monitoring technologies and environmental protection: an interdisciplinary approach" was the subject of the evening workshop organized by the Greek Technical Chamber Department of West Crete, in cooperation with the Technical University of Crete and the Bar Association of Chania, on Friday January 13th.

The event concerned the contribution of new technologies and interdisciplinary applications in environmental protection. In this meeting, Mrs Maria Maniadaki, coordinator of the project LIFE Natura Themis on behalf of the Bar Association of Chania (CB), participated with the oral presentation, under the title: “Geographic information systems and Databases as tools for combating and preventing the Environmental Crime”.

Mrs Maniadaki presented the two Environmental Law Observatories of Crete (East and West Crete), analyzing the purposes of their creation and the way they operate.

Indicatively Mrs. Maniadaki mentioned that "The aim of the Observatories, among others is also the promotion of geographical information systems and databases as a tool for strategic planning related to environmental delinquency as they compose an economic way of environmental information and they are effective tools to combat and prevent the environmental crime”.

The minutes of the meeting and the Mrs Maniadaki’s presentation are available in electronic format in Greek.
