An International Conference entitled "International Perspectives on Preventing Wild Life Crime" took place in Athens, 23-25 November 2018 in the Electra Palace Athens Hotel. Well-known specialists and scientists from all around Europe working on the legal protection of wildlife participated in the conference.
The Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature organized the event in the framework of LIFE Natura Themis project. Dr. Kleoniki Pouikli, a lawyer, has helped with the preparation of the conference’s thematic layout. More than 140 participants were informed about the European and national environmental legislation, the Environmental Liability Directive and the protection of wildlife, the wildlife threats and the tools to tackle biodiversity loss and the loss of the natural European heritage.
In total, the conferences included 26 oral presentations on a) legislation regarding wildlife crime and its implementation, b) the illegal trafficking of wildlife fauna and flora, and c) the role of the LIFE Natura Themis project in tackling wildlife crime.
The minutes of the conference will be available online on the LIFE Natura Themis website the by the end of the year.
