After a long and elaborate procedure the first part of an anonymous citizen report of an environmental crime through the APP LIFE Themis was successfully completed.

The report regards to the illegal disposal of excavated material and solid waste disposal without environmental authorization on a private land of a business in the area of Chania, part of which is inside a NATURA 2000 area.

The Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature after receiving the anonymous report has sent it to the relevant authorities which in turn conducted autopsies and ascertained the environmental crime.

As a result, a penalty of 2.000,00 euros was imposed on the businesses’ manager.

LIFE Natura Themis is awaiting the response of authorities for other anonymous reports which were sent via the ΑΡΡ LIFE Themis, and is closely monitoring the effective use of the ΑΡΡ by the citizens.
