The Coordination Office for the Implementation of Environmental Liability (COIEL) [Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy] organized in Athens a Training Seminar on the implementation of environmental liability on November 29-30, 2016.
The Seminar held in Athens in the auditorium of the Ministry of Environment and Energy. The Seminar was attended by representatives from the Regional Committees for the Remedy of Environmental Damages of North and South Aegean, Attica, Epirus, Western Macedonia, Central Macedonia and Eastern Thrace and Thessaly, as well as members of the Ministries of Environment and Energy, Finance, Infrastructure and Transport, Economy and Development - General Secretariat for Industry, Greek Ombudsman, etc.
During the 2-day Training Seminar it was highlighted the importance of cooperation of central and regional competent authorities to improve the effectiveness in addressing environmental issues, combined with the utilization of the National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF) funds to finance remediation actions, and brought out the important role of the Green Fund.
The Training Seminar was also attended by representatives of the UoC and HSPN on behalf of the LIFE Natura Themis project.
The most important issues that were identified during the completion stage of works and the formulation of conclusions were the importance of the strengthening of the environmental inspections, the use of financial guaranties by economic operators, and the optimization of existing tools such as electronic records etc., which will contribute to the substantially improvement of both the implementation of the environmental policy and the environmental liability.
