LIFE Natura Themis participated in two first aid seminars on wildlife care that took place in Heraklion and Chania on the 21-22 April 2018 and on the 2-3 June 2018, respectively. Representatives of the LIFE Natura Themis made oral presentations during the seminars in order to inform the public on environmental responsibility.

The two-day training seminars entitled “Wildlife First Aid and Organizing a Volunteers’ Network” were organized by the University of Crete-Natural History Museum of Crete in collaboration with the ANIMA Society for Protection and Wildlife Care. During the seminars members of ANIMA gave instructions on basic wildlife care principles and wildlife first aid.

LIFE Natura Themis participated in the seminar with a presentation entitled: “Tools for tackling wildlife crimes”. The presentation focused on the wildlife threats in Crete, the “Cretan Canine Team” and the “LIFE Themis smart devices app”. The latter is a tool that citizens can use in order to report directly and anonymously crimes against wildlife.

During the two-day training seminar in Chania, 4 Griffon vultures (Gyps fulvus) were released in Xyloskalo Omalos. The animals recovered in Athens in the facilities of ANIMA and the Attica Zoological Park. The animals were transported to Crete free of charge with ANEK LINES.

The seminars were organized within the framework of the project “Setting up a Volunteers’ Network of Wildlife Care & First Aid in Crete and Athens” implemented by the University of Crete-Natural History Museum of Crete and financed by the A.G. Leventis Foundation.
