More than 125 delegates, academics, judges & prosecutors, officials and executives of the Regions and Decentralized Administrations of Greece, representatives of security forces, lawyers and lay public attended the conference "Environmental Responsibility, Prevention and Remedy: Challenges and Opportunities for the Biodiversity Protection in Greece", which took place in Heraklion of Crete between 8 and 10 of September 2017.
The conference was organised by the University of Crete - Natural History Museum of Crete and was addressed to Presecutors, Judges, lawyers, non Governmental Organizations and to public servants of the responsible departments, which are directly connected to the environmental crimes, environmental damage and recovery, to scientists etc.
The subjects of the conference was about among others, the implementation of the Environmental Liability directive (2004/35/ΕΚ), the social implications of the environmental crime, the existing legislation for wildlife protection, the contribution of the non Governmental Organizations and the efficiency of the environmental crime presecution.
During the Conference, 31 oral presentations were announced, 12 posters were presented, while a Round Table was held on Saturday, September 9, 2017, where representatives of the Protected Areas Management Bodies of the country, the Greek Ombudsman, lawyers and academics met to discuss the future of the Management Bodies and the protection of the environment in general.
